Malaysian number one Gavin Green will head into today's final round of the Portugal Masters two shots behind fellow 36-hole leader Jordan Smith of England.
Green raked up an eagle and six birdies against one bogey in a superb third round 64 for a 54-hole total of 20-under-par 193 (64-65-64), two adrift of Smith who shot a stunning 62 at Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course in Vilamoura.
"It would mean the world (to win). Everybody is going to want to win, but I think staying in the present and the process is the most important thing for me tomorrow," said Green, whose best result this season is T2 in the D+D Real Czech Masters in August.
Third-placed Sebastian Heisele of Germany is three strokes further adrift, while Thai star Kiradech Aphibarnrat is among those in a tie for fourth on 15-under-par.
Currently in 76th place on the DP World Tour rankings, Green needs another strong performance to make it into the top 50 of the DP World Tour rankings and earn a spot in the season-ending USD10 million DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai on November 17-20.
Green's only previous appearance in the DP World Tour Championship came in 2020, when he finished a career-high 52nd on the DP World Tour Rankings.
